I Power I

Actionwork, I Power I, Project Wolf and Stoke Newington School Media Arts College are excited to be involved together with a host of other groups and organisations in what will be the most exciting empowerment event for young people this year.

This is our second National Anti Bullying Conference For Young People, the first was a raging success with over 250 young people attending from around London and the UK. The annual I Power I Anti Bullying Conference For Young People will be an event to remember. We look forward to your participation.

At this Conference we will have young speakers, shows by young people, specialist adult speakers, mystery guest stars, music, live young people's debates on stage, the Damilola Taylor Young Achiever of the Year Award, a confidential discussion room, an exhibition hall, a children's rights display, a video room and a specialist workshop room.

Confirmed representation at the Conference includes the Department for Education and Skills (DFES), National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC), Anti Bullying Alliance (ABA), The Londeon Development Team of Save The Children, UK Observatory, Bullying Online, Kidscape, Schools Out and a host of young people's initiatives, peer mentoring programmes and guest stars.

Young people will have opportunities to talk face-to-face with a variety of specialists in the field of anti-bullying, including:

  • Educators
  • Parent group representatives
  • Community police officers
  • Child protection officers
  • Youth workers, mentor trainers
  • Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) Co-ordinators and many others.

One of the themes for this Conference will be that of 'Empowerment'. We will explore how we can empower our young people and how they would like to be empowered. The Conference will look at several models of empowerment of young people from around London and the UK.

Some of the positive outcomes of this Conference includes that over 100 schools and youth groups will be involved in the Conference. Over 200 young delegates will participate in positive activities that they can feedback to their schools, reaching a further 3000 – 30,000 plus students. Teachers, Anti-bullying specialists and students attending the Conference will increase and share their knowledge on the subject of bullying and how to find ways of prevention and dealing with it. And young people will feel they have a voice that matters. In addition, prior to the Conference schools that are sending delegates will be encouraged to set a school or group project with the aim of them voting a candidate for the Damilola Taylor Young Achiever of the Year Award.

Places at this Anti Bullying Conference are limited.

Actionwork, and I Power I would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to our funders: Playtherapy UK, Bridge House Trust, Persula Foundation, London Development Team of Save the Children, the National Children's Board, and all our supporters. Thank you very much.
